World Education Services (WES) is a non-profit organisation that evaluates credentials for foreign students and immigrants wanting to study or work in the United States and Canada. It was founded in 1974 and is headquartered in New York, United States. It also has a presence in Toronto, Canada.
WES examines over 200,000 credentials every year; they auto-authenticate and characterise international education in terms of the United States or Canada. WES notes that its certification evaluations are advisory judgments that are not legally binding.
WES’s unique database collects and saves academic certificate information from over 200 nations, 45,000 international institutions, and 20,000 academic credentials. However, WES has no official agreements with any country’s educational systems, and the retained credentials are submitted freely by the candidates, and they function with third-party objectives.
WES is accredited by the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) and a founding member of the Alliance of Credential Evaluation Services of Canada (ACESC). The United States The Department of Education’s website mentions NACES and AICE with the warning that their inclusion does not imply support.
