The deterioration of relations between India and Canada began on Monday, following remarks made by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau during a parliamentary address. In his speech, Trudeau suggested the possibility of India’s involvement in the assassination of Canadian citizen and Sikh separatist activist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. As a result of these allegations, Canada expelled a high-ranking Indian diplomat.
A Canadian diplomat was also removed by India, which vehemently refuted the claim and charged Canada with sheltering terrorists and sympathizers of Khalistan. It said that there have long been concerns about Canada’s inactivity in the face of extremism.
